Is Florida really more fun than California?

New report ranks every state, but San Diegans disagree with the findings.

SAN DIEGO — California has great beaches, world-class parks, and Disneyland! The state is packed with awesome things to do, but a new report said we're not as fun as Florida!

“Oh. Oh no. That’s really sad,” said Nancy Regas after we shared the findings with her. Nancy and her husband, Louis, were out enjoying a stroll through Balboa Park on a beautiful, sunny day.

“This is my favorite part of the city,” she added. “This is absolutely glorious. To be here is a privilege and there’s nothing else like Balboa Park."

Florida seems to be more known for wild animal stories than fun. Huge alligators roaming the streets, a 19-foot Burmese python slithering by, and wild turkeys attacking people. Those are actual stories out of Florida on our newsfeed.

“We have cute animals here like squirrels,” said Nam Doan with a laugh. “Normal animals.”

California has cute animals, like surfing dogs and pandas! “There's a zoo that's pretty popular and we have the pandas,” Nancy and Louis said. “We got the pandas back first.”

WalletHub looked at 26 key metrics including the number of attractions, restaurants per capita, ideal weather, and variety of arts, entertainment and recreation establishments. They ranked Florida number one, California two, Nevada three, New York four, and Colorado five.

Californians definitely don't seem to agree with the report, which scored Florida high for most amusement parks, restaurants. and music festivals per capita.

“I know you guys have a beach here, but our beach is fun... very fun... very fun…” said Amanda Arrants and her daughter. They just flew into San Diego from Florida. And while her take on beaches is debatable, her dad did bring up a fair point. “Cost of living. Period.”

The report did factor in costs and we scored well for affordable, good wine.

In case you're wondering, West Virginia scored dead last. And while Florida may be number one in the report, California will always be number one in our hearts.

“We love it,” Nancy said. “We call it home. We're very happy here.”
