Local Camp Pendleton Marines celebrate freedom on Fourth of July

The firework show at Del Mar Beach starts at 9 p.m.

CAMP PENDLETON NORTH, Calif. — For those who protect the United States, it’s only fitting they celebrate America's independence in a big way. While there are many ways to honor America's 248th birthday, gratitude for our freedom is at the forefront at Camp Pendleton.

"I am just incredibly thankful," David Oehlers said. "I feel a lot of us are patriotic and this is our one way to celebrate it and enjoy a day with our brothers and sisters who serve, and just enjoy a day at the beach."

Our United States Marines let freedom ring on July Fourth at Camp Pendleton's Del Mar Beach.

"I'm glad I'm able to do stuff like this, as well as be the future generation to keep this going per se," Oehlers added.

Sergeant Ronnie Reed III said, "Our Marines are doing great. We love it. We love serving our country, we love fighting for everyone. We love doing everything we can do be better than we were yesterday."

From swimming, grilling and playing in the sand where they typically train, to games and activities for both the young and young at heart.

James Stimmel and his family are in town from Tucson for their annual 4th of July tradition. He served in the Air Force for 20 years and continues to give back, working at the Veterans Administration.

"I think the American people need to teach the younger generation what Veterans are - like the respect for them," Stimmel said.

Camp Pendleton's fireworks show starts at 9 p.m.
