Carjacking suspect arrested after pursuit in Vista

Driver taken into custody after flipping vehicle near Raising Cane's restaurant.

VISTA - A carjacking suspect was arrested Sunday after a pursuit resulting in a rollover crash in Vista, authorities said.

At about 1:30 a.m. Sunday, deputies responded to reports of a vehicle theft in the 900 block of S. Santa Fe Avenue, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

A 2003 Mazda hatchback was stolen from the victim by multiple armed suspects who fled the scene. The vehicle was located shortly afterward near the intersection of Date Street and Grapevine Road.

A traffic stop was initiated, but the driver fled and after a brief pursuit, the suspect flipped the vehicle in the 300 block of Vista Village Drive near a Raising Cane's restaurant, the department said.

Deputies were seen pulling the driver out of the vehicle's window before he was arrested and taken to a hospital, where his condition was not immediately available.

It was unclear if any other suspects have been taken into custody.
