SAN DIEGO — Casa Familiar in San Ysidro is celebrating Three Kings Day or Día de Los Reyes by offering books and other gifts to children at the San Ysidro Civic Center.
Three Kings Day, also known as Dia de Los Reyes, commemorates the arrival of the three magi in Bethlehem at the Nativity scene. It also coincides with the Epiphany in Eastern Orthodox Christianity.
Despite gift-giving traditionally happening on Christmas Day for most in San Ysidro, Three Kings Day is celebrated with hot chocolate and the famous cake, rosca de reyes.
Casa Familiar organizes several cultural programs, events and festivals in South San Diego County and Three Kings Day is no exception to the festivities.
"Continuing our proud cultural traditions is one of the most important things that we do at Casa Familiar,” said Lisa Cuestas, CEO of Casa Familiar. “Three Kings Day, the story of foreigners in a strange land on a journey following a star, is the first among many that we celebrate for the communities of San Ysidro and San Diego.”
The Three Kings Day at Casa Familiar was made possible thanks to the support of Tommy Rosas, the California Highway Patrol, Tommy Hilfiger, and individual donors.
