SAN DIEGO — Residents in Mission Hills and Hillcrest are raising concerns after a man was seen carrying an axe and going up to neighbors' doors over the weekend.
He was caught on camera knocking on people's doors in the middle of the night.
"I saw the images and the ring camera videos. It was very jarring and scary," said Sophie, a Mission Hills resident.
People say they've also seen him on the doorsteps of residences near Washington and Dove Street in Hillcrest
"Poking around and walking around carrying an axe. I know carrying an axe isn't illegal you can do that but it is frightening. A lot of the neighbors are concerned," Vincent said.
More than half a dozen ring doorbell videos of the man have circulated on social media from Friday and Saturday night.
"I was like what are you doing here at 3:00 a.m. or whatever it was with a switchblade knocking on the ring door," Rick said.
Some people said they have already called the police and made reports. They said they want extra overnight patrols in the area over the coming days.
"People are just wondering what to do. How can we keep our neighbors safe? What can we do as a community to stay safe," Vincent said.
CBS 8 also reached out to the San Diego Police Department to get information and find out if the man has been detained.
As of Monday evening, we're still waiting for a response.
