Here's where you can celebrate National Night Out in San Diego County

A few of the departments celebrating this year include: San Diego County Sheriff's Department, San Diego Police Department, Chula Vista Police, Escondido Police.

SAN DIEGO — Community gatherings with San Diego County police officers, sheriff's deputies and various other authorities kick off Tuesday as part of the 40th annual National Night Out crime-prevention event. 

The annual campaign is geared toward building community partnerships with residents. Police departments nationwide host the event to encourage the public to engage with police officers in a positive environment. 

Depending on the agency, these events can look like block parties, parades, barbecues or picnics as millions gather across the United States. 

A few of the departments celebrating this year include: San Diego County Sheriff's Department, San Diego Police Department, Chula Vista Police, Escondido Police.
