Chula Vista's Starlight parade returns after three-year hiatus

Thousands attended the beloved holiday parade in downtown Chula Vista.

SAN DIEGO — South Bay's holiday festival, Starlight Nights, kicked off in Downtown Chula Vista Sunday. Thousands of people came out to enjoy the holiday festivities. The festival's parade returned after a three year hiatus because of COVID.

The festival is a beloved tradition that stretches back decades.

"We have been six or seven years. Every year that it's open and it's wonderful," Gustavo said.

This year's parade was bigger than ever with more than 140 groups participating. There were marching bands, classic cars, and creative floats wrapped in Christmas lights. Guests shared their favorite moments of the night.

"The band played music and we saw the Christmas tree," said Gabriella.

The festival kicked off with a tree lighting ceremony. Attendees got to take photos with Santa, explore a holiday market and listen to live performances. Many people said the night was the perfect way to bring the community together and embrace the holiday season.
