SAN DIEGO — The City of San Diego announced Tuesday it's taking legal action to shut down a Kearny Mesa massage parlor, accusing it of being a front for prostitution.
The Ocean Spa Massage Parlor was located in an office complex along Kearny Villa Road. According to police, it operated out of two units. For awhile, it was located right next to a youth Bible study group. Police said some of the illegal acts that were going on there were so loud, they actually disrupted the study group.
"The San Diego Police Department and city attorney's office will not stand idly by while nuisance and criminal establishments violate the law and take advantage of our communities," said SDPD Chief David Nisleit.
According to police, a joint investigation with the San Diego City Attorney's office uncovered numerous things. Police said Ocean Spa workers were caught offering to sell sex to undercover police officers on four different occasions. Online, police said detectives found more than 1200 advertisements offering sex acts at the massage parlor.
According to court documents, complaints about the business started back in 2018. People complained about " traffic at all hours of the day, sexual sounds coming from the premises which are audible to nearby businesses, and female employees wearing sexually explicit clothing."
SDPD said it spent 125 hours investigating prostitution-related crimes at the property. Investigators said sex acts were happening inside the business and also in people's cars in the parking lot.
The criminal case against the property owners and the people running the business remains ongoing, according to SDPD.
