NATIONAL CITY, Calif. — A construction crew working at Westfield's Plaza Bonita Mall hit and severed a gas line while digging for a water line, National City Fire said.
The incident happened just before 3:00 a.m. Wednesday. The gas leak resulted in a fire, which prompted evacuations for people working inside the mall overnight.
SDG&E crews said they were working to secure the gas line. According to SDG&E, no residential customers were affected by the natural gas outage, it was exclusive to the mall property.
