EL CAJON, Calif. — Construction continues to cause delays for commuters on Interstate 8 in El Cajon as major road work is expected to last until 5 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 9.
Crews closed up to three of four westbound lanes from West Main Street to Loren Drive in El Cajon to complete work on the El Cajon Boulevard underpass.
During the hours from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m., at least three lanes will be open. Between the hours of 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. crews may have only one lane open.
There are no plans to close all four lanes at any time during the work.
During the work period, CHP and Caltrans traffic engineers plan to monitor the traffic along the freeway. If traffic delays become too heavy, they may detour some vehicles to northbound State Route 67, to westbound State Route 52, to southbound State Route 125, to westbound I-8.
The dates and times are subject to change due to weather, traffic incidents, or other maintenance considerations.
This $27.7 million project is expected to be completed this summer according to CHP.
