BAJA CALIFORNIA, Mexico — The team behind a new restaurant opening in San Diego County has earned some of the culinary world’s highest honors.
The Deckman's Restaurant Group earned a Michelin Star on Tuesday for its restaurant, Conchas de Piedra, located in Valle De Guadalupe in Baja California. The restaurant also earned a rare Michelin Green Star for sustainability, one of only two restaurants in Mexico that received the dual recognition.
"This rustic-chic collaboration from the people behind Deckman’s and Casa de Piedra, one of the many wineries in the valley, brings together what both places do best—seafood and sparkling wine," reads the Michelin Guide.
The prestigious culinary awards were announced during the unveiling of the first Michelin Guide Mexico in the company's more than 100-year history.
Chef Drew Deckman and Paulina Deckman, owners of The Deckman Group, also earned a Michelin Green Star for their flagship restaurant, Deckman’s en el Mogor during the ceremony in Mexico City.
The Deckman's Group has three farms that grow food specifically for their restaurants, along with sourcing only legal and responsibly grown Baja seafood.
The Deckman's Restaurant Group is set to open its first restaurant in the United States next month.
The restaurant dubbed “31THIRTYONE” will open in North Park and is described as a “caused-based concept that will build on Deckman’s earth-to-table mission to revolutionize sustainable food culture."
The Deckmans said they'll pledge 1% of 31THIRTYONE's monthly revenue to help farmers start carbon farming projects in partnership with Zero Foodprint.
“31THIRTYONE is rooted in our commitment to environmental conservation and our desire top reserve the watershed of southern California and the northern Baja region,” said Drew Deckman. “The menu reflects our earth-to-table vision to redefine the way people think about and experience sustainable dining and help to revolutionize the future of the restaurant industry.”
The new, 4,200 square-foot restaurant will feature a first-floor dining room, cocktail bar, chef's counter and oyster bar along with a rooftop bar and patio for drinks and views.
