Diegueno Middle School campus supervisor arrested, accused of sexually assaulting 12-year-old

Omar Galeana, 21, was arrested on charges of child molestation and furnishing marijuana to a minor, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

ENCINITAS, Calif. — A former Campus Supervisor at Diegueno Middle School in Encinitas was arrested Sunday, accused of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old.

Omar Galeana, 21, was arrested on charges of child molestation and furnishing marijuana to a minor, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department

He was employed at the Encinitas middle school in the San Dieguito Union High School District for three months, and as of Monday was no longer a district employee, according to a letter to families from Superintendent Anne Staffieri.

"Please know that our primary concern is the safety of all students. We are taking this information seriously and cooperating with law enforcement in every way possible," Staffieri said in the letter.

Galeana met with the 12-year-old outside school hours on Friday, the Sheriff's Department said. Detectives immediately started an investigation when the incident was reported to law enforcement.

The department has not released additional information because the victim is a minor.

Anyone with additional information should call the Sheriff's Department at 858-565-5200.

"The safety of our students is a priority for the Sheriff’s Department," deputies said in a statement. "We want to remind students if they see something suspicious or hear of any threats, they can always approach our school resource deputies. They can also call the Students Speaking Out Hotline at (888) 580-8477. You can remain anonymous."

The school district's administrative team planned to visit classes to reinforce campus safety messages and remind students to use their voice to keep students and staff safe, Staffieri said in the letter.

"We will do everything possible to maintain our daily routine while supporting each other in moving forward," Staffieri said.

The arrest of Galeana follows the arrest of Stacy Michelle Walker, 40, Wednesday, March 20. Walker is Mount Carmel High School teacher who allegedly engaged in a years-long sexual relationship with an underage female student. She pleaded not guilty Friday, March 22 to 17 felony counts.

Deputy District Attorney Vanessa Gerard said the interactions between Walker and the victim continued until 2020, when the victim was 18.

Police say the crimes began with sexual conversations that led to exchanges of explicit text messages, photographs and videos, and then sex acts.

The victim reported the alleged crimes to San Diego police last July, SDPD Lt. Dan Sayasane said.

Walker faces up to 13 years in state prison if she is convicted of all counts, which include charges of sexual penetration by a foreign object, oral copulation of a person under 18, and contacting a minor with the intent to commit a sexual offense. A criminal complaint states the crimes allegedly occurred in 2018 and 2019.

Anyone with information regarding this incident or believes they know or are the victim of a similar assault should call the SDPD Sex Crimes Unit at (619) 531-2210 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.

A Hoover High School associate principal was also arrested Wednesday, March 20. Charles De Freitas, 41, was arrested by San Diego Police on charges of distributing lewd matter to a minor and possession of child pornography. De Freitas was arrested and booked into Central Detention Facility, San Diego police said.

If you have any concerns about your student’s interaction with this individual, please contact the San Diego Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force at 858-495-4779, or the San Diego Unified School District Police Department at 619-725-7000.

San Diego Police are also asking anyone who suspects De Freitas may have abused other children to contact SDICAC Investigator Laura Hurtado at lhurtado@sdicac.org.
