EVERETT, Wash. -- The Port of Everett is giving the public a new look at its plans for a massive waterfront development that it says will make the city a more vibrant place to live.
Waterfront Place is a potential 1.5 million square foot, mixed-use development including a planned 660 housing units. The first phase of the project called Fisherman's Harbor is set to be completed by 2017 and includes 275 luxury housing units, eight restaurants, a public plaza and new dock walk.
Port CEO Les Reardanz says there is already a waiting list of possible tenants looking to rent condo space.
"We believe there is a large demand for this kind of development," Reardanz said. "Everett is a community that is taking off. This is where people want to be."
The Port is acting as the master developer. So far no one has signed on to build Waterfront Place or set up shop, but Reardanz says there is a lot of interest.
Since 2005, the Port has been working to clean up marina and waterfront area and has spent tens of millions of dollars to rebuild the seawall and land where the development will be located.
Four other districts are planned for Waterfront Place. The entire project is expected to be completed in the next 7-10 years.
Thursday, the port plans to hold an open house on Waterfront Place Central from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Blue Heron Room, 1205 Craftsman Way, Everett.
