DEL MAR, Calif. — The first weekend of the San Diego County Fair wrapped up Sunday and many families visited to celebrate Father's Day. This serves as the unofficial start to San Diego's summer.
This year's theme is getting nostalgic with a Let's go Retro concept.
When is the San Diego County Fair open?
The last day of the fair this year is Sunday, July 7. It opened June 12. Attendees can go Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. It's closed Monday and Tuesday.
How do I buy tickets?
You can buy tickets to the San Diego County Fair online or in person.
To access discounts, purchase tickets online at least 24 hours in advance.
In person, you can buy tickets with credit and debit cards only. The fair makes available 60,000 tickets for sale each day.
Tickets are less expensive on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Seniors (62 and up) can access discounted tickets online, every day.
Children ages 12 and below can go to the fair for free on Fridays. Children five and under can enter for free every day.
If you're going to see a concert, you do not need to purchase a separate ticket to the fair. Your concert ticket covers admission that day.
Where do I park?
The fair has several parking options near the fairgrounds and at locations nearby with free shuttle service.

Opening weekend
Eight-year-old Diego spent the day with his brother and parents eating, playing games and riding rides.
"We went on the zipline. That was fun. That was an adventure for the four of us. We've never done that before. I'm just really happy to be out with my family on Father's Day. We're having a great time," said Diego's dad.
Families say the San Diego sunshine made it that much better.
"The weather's been really good so we're having a good time with the food and great company," said Diego's mom.
"It's important for me to spend a special day with my husband and be all together us all here. It's easy in San Diego. The San Diego County Fair is the best," Valerie said.
