Fire breaks out at alleged hoarder home in Ocean View Hills

CBS 8 has reported on this Ocean View Hills house for weeks after neighbors demanded it get cleaned up.

SAN DIEGO — A fire broke out at an Ocean View Hills home Tuesday morning and crews worked quickly to rescue the woman and her dog.

"So we have one occupant, she was checked out by the firefighters and medics at scene," City of San Diego Battalion Chief Mike Liversedge said.

CBS 8 is no stranger to this home, we've reported on this house for weeks after people who live close by demanded something be done to get it cleaned up.

“Toxic waste is the best way to put it because it's nothing but down right dirty, throw it in the trash, get rid of it kind of stuff and that is the smell we've received freely from her,” Next door neighbor Eddie Mead said.

Mead told CBS 8 that one of the several issues he's had to deal with is rats coming from the house into his property.

“That house is piled high with boxes so some rooms are like three to four feet deep that you really cannot even enter,” Mead said.

The fire comes just days before a court inspection signed by a judge at this property.

“I hope for our whole community's sake that it's still gonna go but in the back of my mind I feel that it is possible that this could hold up," Mead said.

So far, local firefighters have not revealed any details on how the fire started.
