SAN DIEGO — Imagine if you were watching the movie of your life. There would be that one moment when something happens to the main character that puts them on the path toward their destiny.
"That Christmas we bought him a car. It was a sheriff's car. He had the biggest smile on his face and ever since then, he wanted to be a deputy." said Dolores Marin, a single mother to two boys, John and Josh.
"Josh would not touch a gun. He hates firearms and John wouldn't jump into a fire," said Marin.
"That's come into my job, kind of like a protector of the community" said John Corraro, a detective with the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.
"I'm a little more energetic. Kind of a wildcard," said Josh Corraro, a firefighter with the City of Vista.
The two are identical twins, with John being born 11 minutes before Josh. If you've ever met a twin, you'd know they're inseparable.
"Growing up was awesome, having a friend, having someone always around" said Josh.
If you know anything about brothers, you'd know there's always a rivalry.
"There are those that can wear the silver star and become deputies and there are those that become firefighters," said John.
"It's sort of a competition thing. We always wanted to be the same, but different." said Josh.
One's a cop. One's a firefighter - same, but different. They're two men that picked different paths, but chose to dedicate their lives to public service. Though the men have pushed themselves to complete their goals, there's one person who got them there in the first place: Their mother Dolores.
"I have to thank her. She raised us as a single mom. She did a fantastic job and worked very hard to provide for us." said John.
"They're civil servants who are committed to their jobs," said Dolores. "and that is something I'm very proud of."
