Frontwave Arena in Oceanside opens doors, Simone Biles kicks off GOAT tour

Frontwave Arena opened by hosting Simone Biles and other top gymnasts in the first stop of the Gold Over America Tour.

OCEANSIDE, Calif. — Oceanside is celebrating the opening of Frontwave Arena by hosting Simone Biles and other top gymnasts on Monday in the first stop of the Gold Over America Tour.

"This is years in the making so we can't wait to open the doors to fans here," said Josh Elias, Frontwave Arena's CEO.

CBS 8 got a look inside the $85 million arena before the athletes took the stage.

"We live in Oceanside so we're pretty excited about the whole thing and get to see the GOAT tour as it launches. I don't think we'd wanna be anywhere else," said Steve, who lives in Oceanside.

So many guests couldn't wait to see Simone Biles show off her skills. She's leading the Gold Over America Tour, also referred to as the G-O-A-T tour which also stands for "greatest of all time." It's a fitting name as Biles is the most decorated gymnast in history.

"I'm just so excited," said 9-year-old Giana.

Biles has inspired so many kids, like  Gianna, to get involved with gymnastics. "This is my first season well first time competing so it has been pretty fun," she said.

The arena has a 7,500 seat capacity which its CEO says will make it a unique and intimate venue space.

"Being able to see the sports, concerts and events that will be here, we're really looking forward to what's yet to come," Elias said.

It will be home to the San Diego Sockers and San Diego Clippers. We're told concerts will make up about half of the events held here. The arena also sits on hundreds of acres of land, which includes 22 soccer fields.

"North County definitely has an epicenter for entertainment now and San Diego is definitely a sports town and you'll see that here with our sports calendar and stay tuned for a lot of things happening in North County and Oceanside," he said.
