SAN DIEGO — There were long lines at San Diego International Airport Friday morning after a global tech outage paralyzed airports across the United States.
"As soon as I came in, I saw the line, I told my wife 'Get in that line' because something's going on," said Steve Lutz.
He's trying to get to Montana with his family for his nephew's wedding. His two kids are supposed to be in the wedding, Lutz is supposed to officiate the ceremony.
"The wedding is tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. in Montana," said Lutz. "We're contemplating on depending how this goes, jumping a car and making a 17-and-a-half hour drive to try to make it there in time."
At 9:30 a.m. a line for Delta stretched through Terminal 2.
Over 1,800 flights had been canceled within, into or out of the U.S. as of Friday morning, and more than 5,000 others were delayed, according to the flight tracking service, FlightAware. Globally, more than 28,000 flights were delayed early Friday.
American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and United Airlines resumed at least some flight departures later Friday morning after pausing operations earlier in the day due to the outages.
"Our problem is we just can't check in, and we can't call, we can't use the kiosk, nothing will work," said traveler Sydney Whelan.
She's heading to Seattle with her husband, Andy, and their 16-month-old son, Theo. They're attending Andy's sister's wedding.
"We have other people coming to the wedding. relatives from Massachusetts, their flights were cancelled and had to rebook," said Andy Whelan.
