SAN DIEGO — A shooting on Fiesta Island Wednesday morning left a 41-year-old man dead, another man was rushed to the hospital.
CBS 8 has learned that the shooting is related to an altercation between two pet owners. According to SDPD homicide detectives, an unidentified person stabbed an off-duty San Diego Community College District Officer multiple times.
The off-duty officer, according to SDPD, fired a weapon at least once, killing the suspect.
Homicide detectives said the off-duty officer was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive stab wounds.
The incident started just after 10:00 a.m. Fiesta Island was shut down for about five hours as police gathered evidence. It reopened just before 3:00 p.m., shortly after the body was removed by the medical examiner's office.
The San Diego Humane Society took possession of one dog for emergency boarding.
CBS 8 received the following statement from the San Diego Community College District:
“Our focus is on the condition of our officer who sustained serious injuries during an assault this morning at Fiesta Island while he was off duty. Our thoughts are with him and his family at this time. The District is cooperating with the San Diego Police Department on the investigation.”
San Diego Police are asking anyone with information that may help in this case to contact them.
