SAN DIEGO — San Diego Police Department homicide detectives are investigating following a reported shooting at Fiesta Island.
CBS 8 has learned that the shooting is related to an altercation between two dog owners. According to SDPD homicide detectives, an unknown person stabbed an off-duty community college officer.
The person who is accused in the stabbing was shot and killed by the off-duty community college officer, detectives told CBS 8.
Homicide detectives said the off-duty officer was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive stab wounds.
A cyclist told CBS 8 that he witnessed several law enforcement officers in the area at around 10 a.m.
Dozens of San Diego Police cars, park rangers and investigators have set up a perimeter for their investigation and blocked off the entrance to Fiesta Island.
The San Diego Humane Society has taken possession of both dogs.
