Identical twin sisters serving side-by-side in San Diego Harbor Police Department

Despite their striking resemblance, the twins have managed to carve out their own identities within the department.

SAN DIEGO — In a rare occurrence, identical twin sisters Brooke and Sarah Miller are both serving as officers in the San Diego Harbor Police Department. The pair, graduates of Poway High School, have found themselves in a unique position as female twins on the police force.

Brooke Miller joined the department three years ago, with Sarah following suit a year later.

"She was really excited about it, and I was really excited for her," Sarah explained. "She was telling me all the incredible things that she gets to do and see and experience every day, and she kind of just wore me down."

While the sisters currently work opposite shifts, they have occasionally patrolled together in the same vehicle. Both agree that their lifelong bond enhances their ability to work as a team.

"It's a pretty unique experience," Sarah said. "We know each other. We've known each other our entire lives. All I have to do is, like, read her facial expressions or her body language, and, like, we're pretty in sync."

Despite their striking resemblance, the twins have managed to carve out their own identities within the department. Sarah recently joined the department's dive team, while Brooke received an award for her rescue and vessel operation in aiding a jet skier who had been hit by a boat.

Their identical appearance does lead to some confusion, both on and off duty.

"People will sometimes come up and be like, 'Oh, hey,' and act like they know me, and I've never seen this person before in my entire life," Brooke shared.

The sisters have even experienced mix-ups during training, with Sarah recalling, "At the academy, when I went through it, they all thought I was her again, like going back through it. So I got yelled at as her they had to figure it out, like, three days later."

Despite the occasional case of mistaken identity, both Brooke and Sarah expressed enthusiasm for their careers in law enforcement.

"It's pretty nice getting to work with your sibling, and, like, more, your twin," Sarah remarked.

As the San Diego Harbor Police Department celebrated National Twin Day, the Miller sisters stand out as a testament to the unique bond between twins and the value of family connections in the workplace.
