SAN DIEGO — The group "Take our Border back Convoy" drove many miles to San Ysidro, as part of a nationwide effort to address security along U.S.-Mexico border.
The group that came to San Diego on Saturday started in Virginia Beach and has traveled across the country to address the nation's border security and to call for the end of illegal immigration.
“Good days of America didn't bring us here," event attendee Narek Palyan said. "It's the bad days, its the bad happenings that brought us here."
Palyan said it's not just "regular people" coming in. He is one of several who showed up to make their voices heard on issues that concern them.
“Country's borders are wide open and there's all sorts of people coming in and like president Trump would say, they are not sending their best,” Palyan said.
The Revolutionary Communist Party — also known as REVCOM — showed up in opposition and went to the San Ysidro Port of Entry.
Michelle Xai is a leader of REVCOM Los Angeles. She says the group is spreading the message of liberation to all people.
“Our message today we don't have an immigration problem, we have an imperialism problem," Xai said. "When we say imperialism, we mean a system that is dominating all over the world."
Xai said the "Take our Border back Covoy" is promoting former president Donald Trump's "Make America Great Again" rhetoric.
REVCOM chanted "ningun ser humano es ilegal" at Saturday's rally. It translates to "No human being is illegal," a statement they hope to spread in the community.
“Call forward all the people that don't want to live in this kind of world where immigrants are made into less than human,” Xia said.
