JULIAN, Calif. —
In downtown Julian, Wednesday morning got off to a late start at Apple Alley Bakery due to a power outage.
Shop owner Debbie Gaudette said she had to throw out a few things.
Dan Mitchell drove to Julian from Rancho Penasquitos for a "staycation."
“We came up to eat breakfast, but due to a power outage until 10 a.m., we couldn’t eat breakfast,” said Mitchell. “We could get lunch.”
All classes were cancelled at Julian schools. Power was restored to the area around 10:30 Wednesday morning. SDG&E says the cause is unclear.
SDG&E deployed its mobile command unit into Julian as a precaution. The unit has supplies like water and a mobile-charging station. SDG&E also brought a generator to Julian. It has enough power to power the downtown area just in case power is shut off on Thursday.
Adele Delgado operates Candy Basket in Julian and says the outages are tough on businesses.
“It’s just frustrating,” said Delgado. “This is the time of year we really depend on to make it through the year.”
However, she and other business owners say they understand the need for safety outages.
“I would rather they turn the electricity off,” said Delgado. “I lost my house in '03 I don’t want to do that again. If this makes it all safer, please turn it off.”
