SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - So you've taken your pooch to the beach and he's covered in sand, and you just don't have the time of the money to take your dog to a professional groomer. Now there's a self-service, coin-operated dog wash that will do it all.
In theory, the All American Coin-Operated Dog Wash makes a lot of sense.
"We serve a lot of people that go to Dog Beach and Fiesta Island, which you know is a sandy beach," Greg Finley said.
And in practice it saves a few bucks too, with $10 for 10 minutes of services from shampoo to flea treatment to conditioner to blow dry.
"The dogs like it. The water's warm, it's like a doggie spa," Greg said.
But theory and practice don't count when it comes to my two-year-old rescue lab Cozmo. You see, taking a bath is not his favorite thing. But with a little coaxing, coercion and the promise of treats to come, let the dog wash begin.
Step one, shampoo. Next comes the rinse. It's not Cozmo's happiest moment, but he shakes it off. Now to be pampered with some luxurious conditioner.
"They're Tropicare, which is a well-known brand of groomer-quality product," Greg said.
If Cozmo didn't like his 10 minutes at the spa, you can bet how he feels about the blow dry. Actually, he's more of a towel dry guy. By the way, if you're headed for the All American Coin-Op Dog Wash, bring along an old beach towel for a final dry off.
They are currently offering a car wash-dog wash special. I should have just put the dog in the car and ran him through the wash with the windows open.
It's been said, "every dog must have its day." But today surely wasn't Cozmo's.
