Highway to hell

It's been an absolute nightmare for North County commuters, and it's not over yet.

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - It's been an absolute nightmare for North County commuters, and it's not over yet. The lane closures are making mornings and evenings miserable for drivers on Interstate 15. The rush hour gridlock has moved Larry Himmel to verse.

It's that time again my friends

To jump into the fray.

The end of our commuter nightmare

Is still at least week away.

Our patience thin, our dinner's cold

And all our nerves are shot.

Crews are on the job

And the I-15's a parking lot.

From Escondido to Kearny Mesa

And all points in between.

Through Mira Mesa, up to Poway

It's an apocalyptic scene.

They say once the work's completed

Our commute will be a breeze.

But between now and then

This will bring us to our knees.

Now folks who chug to the South Bay

Have no sympathy for the I-15.

The rush hour drive down the 805

Is a nightly horror scene.

And eastbound 94 with cars galore

Couldn't get much worse.

And the outbound 8, let's get it straight

It's just an afternoon curse.

There much ado, about the 52

Just out past Santo Road.

Nerves are raw as they scratch and claw

Almost ready to implode.

And heading up the 5, oh man alive.

You will really get nowhere

The reason, well it's tourist season

And $4 night at the fair.

The I-15 is just a microcosm

Of what happens every day.

I know we're not Los Angeles

But we're well on our way.

For the next week on the 15

Or until the 12th of never

Let's be kind to one another

We're all in this together.

As we crawl through the construction

There's one thing we must admit.

This county really missed the boat

When it comes to mass transit.

And when the commuter lanes reopen

The real bottom line fact is:

We can then pay extra to drive roads

Already funded by our taxes.

Just another day in paradise

Morning clouds, afternoon sunshine.

Now our only worry

Will they finish the job on time?
