SAN DIEGO, Calif. (CBS 8) - Sounds from the street corners of San Diego will once again be heard at the Lyceum Theatre. This weekend, a group of former grads from Lincoln and San Diego high schools will return to their doo-wop roots.
The choice entertainers are men on a mission to keep the sounds of the street corners echoing in our hearts.
"We're all from southeast San Diego, live here in San Diego. Last year we did a show called Looking for an Echo and it was an all a cappella show, and what I wanted to do was bring back the brothers from the 'hood and do this show that's around street corner doo-wop," Calvin Manson said.
Their air-tight harmonies come from their love of the music and the fact that they've been singing together for over 40 years.
"The music that we're doing tells a story. It reminisces about what life is really about," Calvin said.
Between the bomb-de-bomp and the dan-a-dang-dangs, there's a message in their music.
"Looking at the music today, where you are denigrating women, you're denigrating groups of people. Things we're doing are bringing people back together," Calvin said.
The sounds of the street corner will resonate once again Saturday night at the Lyceum Theatre when The Choice Entertainers and other a cappella groups blend in chords of peace, harmony and remembrance.
