ENCINITAS, Calif. — A man was arrested last week on suspicion of abducting and raping a 17-year-old girl this week in a neighborhood near Moonlight State Beach. He was being held on no bail pending his arraignment on Tuesday. After his Tuesday afternoon arraignment was canceled, CBS 8 confirmed the kidnapping, rape and forcible oral copulation charges were not pursued and the man was released.
Sheriff's said he had allegedly confronted the teenager as she was walking in the 600 block of Third Street in Encinitas last Wednesday afternoon, ordered her to go into a nearby parking lot and forced her into a vehicle, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Office.
He was accused of sexually assaulting the girl and fleeing. The San Diego Fugitive Task Force arrested him in the 6300 block of University Avenue in the Rolando district of San Diego the next day.
Sheriff's officials did not disclose what led investigators to identify the man as the alleged assailant.
