SAN DIEGO — San Diego Police are searching for a man who attempted to lure a child into his van in South Bay on Monday.
According to the San Diego Police Department, the man was driving a white Ford Econoline when he pulled up next to a child near the intersection of Hidden Trails Drive and Ocean View Hills Parkway at about 7 a.m.
The man complimented the girl on her looks and offered her money to get into the vehicle, police said.
"The man then got out of the van, and the girl ran away," San Diego Police Lt. Adam Sharki said.
The was last seen driving south. He was described as a man in his 40s with a full beard and mustache. He was wearing a black T-shirt, a black hat and sunglasses.
The San Ysidro School District addressed Monday's incident in an email sent to families and staff members.
The email obtained by CBS 8 reads, "The student indicated that the suspect spoke both English and Spanish, asked her to get into his vehicle, if she had a boyfriend, and offered her money."
The San Ysidro School District said police arrived at Vista Del Mar Middle School after the incident to investigate.
Police are closely monitoring Vista Del Mar Middle School, the district said.
