Marine killed at Camp Pendleton during 'routine' operations identified

According to a statement provided by 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, the Texas native died on Tuesday at approximately 5 p.m.

CAMP PENDLETON SOUTH, Calif. — A Camp Pendleton Marine died as a result of an aviation ground mishap during military operations on Tuesday, U.S. Marines confirmed.

Officials identified the Marine killed as Cpl. Miguel A. Maya, a U/AH-1 Aircraft Avionics Technician, and Texas native.

He was with Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron (HMLAT) 303, Marine Aircraft Group 39, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing.

“My heartfelt condolences go out to Cpl. Maya’s loved ones during this difficult time,” Lt. Col. Jason Caster, commanding officer of HMLAT-303 said in a statement. “Our priority right now is taking care of the family of our fallen Marine, and ensuring the well-being of our Marines and their loved ones.”

According to officials, the incident is under investigation and no further information will be released at this time.
