Mexican Senate president Gerardo Fernandez Noroña visits El Cajon

During Fernandez Noroña’s time in East County, he spoke about his experiences and the current situation in Mexican politics.

EL CAJON, Calif. — The President of the Mexican Senate Gerardo Fernandez Noroña was welcomed by a large presence of his supporters in El Cajon. The event featured music, dances and food. It was made possible by the group ‘Latinos en Accion.’

“He was requesting an invitation and we were open to say you are welcome to come to El Cajon and he accepted so this is the second time that he’s coming,” Latinos en Accion member Eva Pacheco said.

During Fernandez Noroña’s time in East County, he spoke about his experiences and the current situation in Mexican politics.

“It's important for the people to know all the changes that are happening in Mexico because those changes are also affecting us here,” Pacheco said.

Community members reflected on the importance of events like these for people living away from their homeland.

“I feel like the community here it's good to give them a voice on not necessarily politics in the United States but politics back home from where they are from,” Irank Padilla Salazar said.

Surrounded by his supporters, CBS 8 spoke to Fernandez Noroña about the purpose of his visit.

“Bueno pues platicar con ellos y cómo van… avanzando el pais,” Fernandez Norona said.

In Spanish he states he came to talk and share how the country is progressing.

Meantime, he took a moment to send a message to the community.

“Que le luchen por sus derechos," which translates to "to fight for your rights."
