SAN DIEGO COUNTY, Calif — As mysterious drones continue to be seen in the night skies above New Jersey and other parts of the country, people in San Diego County are sending in their videos of similar sightings to CBS 8.
Mysterious drone sightings over multiple states have led to widespread confusion and growing calls for answers.
“Americans are finding it hard to believe we can’t figure out where these are coming from,” said U.S. Representative Mike Waltz on Face the Nation Sunday.
The Department of Homeland Security and the FBI are investigating the sightings. The agencies say so far there is no threat to public safety or foreign influence.
La Mesa resident, Patrick Ellis, recorded a drone sighting over his backyard just before 11:00 p.m. Sunday night.
This video was taken just before 11:00 p.m. last night by Patrick Ellis in La Mesa.
“When it made a 180-degree turn, there was no curvature in the turn," said Ellis. "It was just straight, you know flip your controller and start heading back in the opposite direction.”
Several CBS 8 viewers sent us drone sighting videos from Chula Vista over the weekend.
“I was able to verify it’s not our drones,” said Chula Vista Police Captain Miriam Foxx, who also heads up their drone program.
CBS 8 showed the videos to Captain Foxx, and after checking their flight logs, she confirmed that the sightings were not their police drones.
“Not sure what we’re looking at in that video, you know I’m not sure," said Captain Foxx "It’s kind of hard to speculate because you just never know, so not a police drone.”
As for the mystery baffling not only New Jersey residents, but people all across the country, the government is not saying much, leaving people to speculate on theories.
“I’ve seen the news coverage of what’s going on on the east coast, and it’s unusual and very interesting," said Captain Foxx. "I don’t have an explanation for it, so I think, like everyone else, we’re all waiting to hear what is actually going on.”
