SAN DIEGO — As hot temperatures soared across America’s Finest City, hundreds of thousands of visitors packed San Diego beaches to celebrate the Fourth of July weekend.
San Diego Fire-Rescue shared crowd count estimates that revealed 385,000 people spent the Fourth of July at City of San Diego beaches.
According to SDFD, a total of 1,125,000 million people visited a City of San Diego beach starting on Thursday and throughout the holiday weekend.
The breakdown
Crowd estimates according to San Diego Fire-Rescue:
- Thursday, July 4 – 385,000
- Friday, July 5– 250,000
- Saturday, July 6 – 275,000
- Sunday, July 7 – 215,000
- Weekend total-1,125,000
Water rescues
Out of more than one million visitors to San Diego beaches, a total of 832 water rescues were performed by San Diego Fire-Rescue lifeguards and personnel. A total of 371 people were rescued on July 4.

- Friday, July 5– 194
- Saturday, July 6 – 139
- Sunday, July 7 – 128
- Weekend total– 832
