SAN DIEGO — A San Diego mother was booked into jail early Tuesday morning, accused of driving drunk and crashing her car while her two children were with her.
San Diego Police confirm 29-year-old Renee Paxton faces two counts of DUI and two counts of child cruelty.
The crash happened near Aero Drive and Sandrock Road around 10:00 p.m. Monday evening.
According to investigators, Paxton was behind the wheel of a silver Mercedes when she hit a Toyota Tacoma pick-up truck. Video of the aftermath shows the front end of the Mercedes was torn apart, the windshield was smashed, and the airbags had deployed.
The pick-up was filled with all sorts of belongings, including several suitcases. Debris ended up scattered all over the road. No one in the pick-up was hurt.
A third vehicle actually hit a headlight that had come off during the collision.
Samara Bolden was in that third vehicle. She said she heard the children screaming.
"Went over there to make sure everyone was okay," said Bolden. "[I] grabbed the kids, walked them to the sidewalk. The mom was acting a little sketchy."
Bolden says she waited with the children for police to arrive.
Paxton was taken to the hospital. Her children were transported to Rady's with minor injuries.
CBS 8 spoke to Paxton's father Tuesday afternoon. He didn't want to comment on camera. He said he's still waiting to find out exactly what happened. He said the children are doing okay.
According to jail records, Paxton is being held on $100,00 bond. She's scheduled to be arraigned Thursday.
