SAN DIEGO — Barbara Neimeyer was driving from Arizona to California when she was killed by a drunk driver in 2023. CBS 8 spoke with Christine Chavez on Friday who lost her mother nearly a year ago.
Christine wants to use her story to prevent this from happening to others.
There were pictures of Barbara displayed at the event. She was headed to Lakeside for her birthday and her other daughter's baby shower at the time of the wreck.
A vehicle driven by Connor Roberts slammed headfirst into her killing her. According to reports, his BAC was .237, nearly three times the legal limit.
Chavez joined Mothers Against Drunk Driving along with the CHP on Friday to raise awareness about the consequences of drunk driving.
The reason they were in North Park is to show there are options for those who are DDing. Taproom Beer Company is just one example of a restaurant that offers an array of mocktails and nonalcoholic beer you can consume.
If you’re planning on going out and drinking though, make sure to get home safely using an Uber, Lyft, or taxi.
In the last five years in California on Super Bowl weekend, there have been 2,578 DUI crashes that resulted in 59 fatalities and 1,367 serious injuries.
