Mount Miguel High School student Reyvon English pleaded not guilty in court Monday for his arraignment on seven felony charges, including rape, aggravated kidnapping, and false imprisonment.
English was arrested last week in connection with the sexual assault of a 15-year-old student at the same school.
“Students should feel safe at school, especially young girls, they should feel safe to use the bathroom in peace, and it’s our commitment to hold this defendant accountable to the fullest extent of the law,” said Deputy District Attorney Clayton Carr.
If convicted on all charges, English could be facing a maximum sentence of 84 years to life in prison.
“The victim’s obviously heartbroken, the family’s very heartbroken by what happened. They are committed to protecting their daughter," said Carr. "They’re very supportive and loving and caring, and I feel like the victim under the circumstances has a really great support network looking after her right now.”
The judge ordered no bail and imposed a criminal protective order on English, in which he is not to have any contact with the victim. He’ll remain in custody until his readiness and bail review hearing on April 29 at the East County Regional Center.

An 18-year-old student has been arrested in connection with the sexual assault of a 15-year-old student at Mount Miguel High School.
Reyvon English, also a Mount Miguel High School student, was arrested on Thursday and booked into San Diego Central Jail on rape, kidnapping and other charges related to the sexual assault, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department said.
According to the Sheriff’s Department, English allegedly sexually assaulted a 15-year-old student inside a school campus restroom. The victim was on campus for an after-school program when she was assaulted, Sheriff’s Deputies said.
Rancho San Diego Sheriff’s Station deputies arrived on campus and conducted extra patrols after the incident.
Following an extensive investigation revealed that English was a suspect in the sexual assault. English later turned himself into authorities at the Rancho San Diego Sheriff's Station.
"The safety of our students is a priority for the Sheriff’s Department. We want to remind students they can always approach our school resource deputies with any concern," the Sheriff's Department said.
