The Las Palmas Pool in National City has reopened for the community after 18 months of renovations. For people living in the area, it's a long-awaited moment since it is the only local municipal pool in National City.
“Just everyone is excited, we all wanted the same thing to get inside the water,” Las Palmas Pool Aquatics Manager, Dillon Delaney said.
With the pool now open, the community can once again swim laps, exercise, or just swim for fun. Las Palmas even offers Sweetwater High School District the opportunity to practice at the facility.
Some of the improvements made include an expansion of the pool of 25 yards, a new surrounding deck and a new drainage system. Despite the colder months ahead, the pool will remain open and heated year-round.
“We keep the pool heated year round, we’re always going to offer recreational swim lessons on the weekends and continue to offer swim lessons throughout the year,” Delaney said.
It's an attraction people will now be able to benefit from in the community. Chula Vista Resident Rosa Vasquez brought her children for a swim Sunday. Vasquez said it's important for children and families to have access to swim lessons at a low cost.
"Well, first of all, because children learn to swim here in swimming classes here, very affordable, the truth is that the price is very good and the entrance is also affordable," Chula Vista Resident Rosa Vasquez said.
Registration for swim lessons started this weekend with classes quickly filling up. For pool updates and other information on Las Palmas Pool visit their Instagram page at instagram.com/laspalmaspool
