SAN DIEGO — Naval Base Point Loma went on lockdown just after noon Thursday due to reports of a suspicious person on the ground believed to be armed. The lockdown was lifted just before 2 p.m. and the Navy said the person was detained and questioned.
Navy spokesperson Brian O'Rourke said that Navy Security Forces and local law enforcement were investigating and did a sweep of the base. He went on to say that no shots were fired.
The intersection at Laning Road and North Harbor Drive was closed off to traffic for nearly two hours while the incident was under investigation.
The Gateway Youth Center and Patrick Wade CDC were secured from lockdown before the rest of the base re-opened, and parents were able to pick up their children, according to Naval Base Point Loma.
