Navy releases identities of two Sailors killed in early morning crash near Camp Pendleton

The two Navy sailors who died in the early morning crash were stationed in San Diego.
The fatal crash north of Oceanside near Camp Pendleton happened around 3 a.m. Thursday.

CAMP PENDLETON NORTH, Calif. — The United States Navy has released the identities of two Sailors who were killed in an early morning crash near Camp Pendleton on Thursday.

The Navy Sailors were two of three motorcyclists who died in the crash along Interstate 5 north of Oceanside. According to the Navy, Stephen Jermaine Williams, 37, and Jess Lee Davis, 38, both died in the deadly multi-vehicle crash.

“The Navy family mourns the loss of two shipmates in Thursday’s traffic accident. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Sailors’ families, friends and coworkers, and we ask they be afforded privacy during this difficult time,” said Brian O’Rourke, Navy Public Affairs Officer. 

Williams was from Texas and stationed at Southwest Regional Maintenance Center in San Diego. Davis was from Tennessee and was stationed at USS Alexandria in San Diego. 

At least five others were taken to the hospital following the deadly crash on Thursday morning. The collision happened around 3 a.m. Thursday morning and involved multiple vehicles, closing the freeway 

CHP told CBS 8 that the driver of a Jeep crashed into a guardrail and was then hit by a passing driver, whose car overturned. Four motorcyclists, who were following closely, collided with the wreckage. 

Two people inside the Jeep are being treated for life-threatening injuries, while the driver and a passenger from the other car were taken to the hospital for minor to moderate injuries.
