SAN DIEGO — Nearly a dozen people have been displaced after a fire damaged two homes Saturday afternoon in Logan Heights.

The fire was reported just before 2 p.m. on Ocean View Boulevard near S 28th Street, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue Battalion Chief Jeff Phillips.

"Upon arrival we found fire and heavy smoke coming from the rear of the residences," Phillips said. "It appears the fire had started toward the rear of the home and quickly spread into the home itself and up into the attic."

No one was home at the time, but Phillips said two dogs that were inside were able to safely get out.

Phillips said the fire also spread to a second house, but firefighters were able to quickly knock that down with only damage to the exterior of the home.

Phillips said the Red Cross has been called in to assist 11 people who were displaced by the fire.

How the fire started is under investigation.
