Neighbors: Security footage shows alleged thief who is breaking into cars in Leucadia

Leucadia neighbors believe one person is responsible for the car break-ins on their street and say they were caught on security footage.

SAN DIEGO — Neighbors on West Jason Street in Encinitas are concerned after multiple cars in the area were broken into. They believe one person is responsible and was caught on camera.

Security camera video from Jeremy Stockham shows his truck being broken into at around 4:45 Sunday morning.

"So I woke up Sunday morning and both the doors on my truck were open, so I check my camera footage and see a guy walking from down this way, all in black, walks up here, goes up to my truck," Stockham said.

The video shows a person taking an armful of items after rummaging through the truck. Stockham said he also found a mysterious bag of medications on the truck floor.

"All my Milwaukee battery-operated tools, 12, 13-hundred dollars worth of stuff I need to work, to make a living," he said.

Stockham isn't the only one who was targeted on his street. His neighbor's truck was broken into about a month ago. He said tools were stolen but they didn't catch anything on camera.

However, another neighbor did catch more activity on his security cameras. Their video shows a person pulling on the door handle of another car in the neighborhood.

"My neighbor here goes, ‘I’ve seen that guy for three months now, I see that guy twice a month, I recognize him on the video'," Stockham said.

Now, neighbors are double-checking they've locked their doors and are keeping their cameras on.

"I feel so safe up here I’ve lived here ten years, I’m enough off the street," Stockham said. "For someone to walk up here and under a light and just break into my car, wow."
