ESCONDIDO, Calif. — On the day before Christmas Eve, people crowded the hallways inside Escondido’s North County Mall for Super Saturday. Parking quickly filled up with shoppers ready to get last minute items for their loved ones.
“Everybody is last minute, I love it! We’re not alone,” holiday shopper Sarina Lira said.
According to a survey by the National Retail Federation, 142 million shoppers are expected for Super Saturday. So while there were plenty of people still shopping, they definitely weren't alone. Some people said they still had a full load of gifts to buy.
“We need at least ten before we leave the mall,” Lira said.
Another resident said the same, “Maybe like 10 or 11 gifts today,” holiday shopper Yasmine Jackson said.
Shoppers spend big money this holiday season, one holiday shopper said they will be spending anywhere from $100 to $150 in a mall shopping trip.
“Probably like 200 dollars, just know...probably close to that if more,” Jackson said.
Procrastinating on last minute gifts is something many people have in common.
“I’m so busy,” holiday shopper Selam Shimelash said.
Some also said it's difficult finding gifts for their loved ones. While others said it's about how much is spent on gifts.
“Paycheck to paycheck, we’re struggling honestly,” holiday shopper Dylan Zachry said.
Through all the last minute holiday shopping madness, guests had the opportunity to enjoy live music. For people that were really in a rush, giftwrapping stations that were available became a big hit.
Despite waiting to buy gifts, people were excited for this special time of year when those we cherish come together.
