OCEANSIDE, Calif. — Water customers in Oceanside will begin to see higher bills for water and wastewater.
On December 6, the City of Oceanside gave final approval on a set of rate increases on their water bills.
On January 1, 2024, Oceanside's 44,373 water customers will rise by 6%.
Also beginning in the new year, is an additional 4% increase for sewage.
That could mean some ratepayers will see a $20 increase on their January bill, depending on water usage.
The water and wastewater rate hikes in Oceanside coincide with increases in the South Bay and San Diego, as well as other municipalities and water districts throughout the region.
Regarding Oceanside's rate increase, Oceanside's Water Utilities Director, Lindsay Leahy told CBS 8 that the increase is due to several factors.
“The approved rates that will go into effect January 2024 and again in January 2025, are driven by a variety of factors, including: Increased costs for labor, utilities (gas and electric) and chemicals, as well as materials and supplies, MWD and SDCWA's rate increases, as well as internal cost of service factors associated with the Clean Water program,” said Leahy.
