NATIONAL CITY, Calif. — One person was killed and four others were injured in a shooting at a house party in National City and police were searching for the suspects Saturday, authorities said.
Officers responded at around 11:50 p.m. Friday to reports of shots fired at 1003 N Ave., near the intersection of East Plaza Boulevard, according to the National City Police Department.
"The shooting happened at a large party in an abandoned house, where five people sustained gunshot wounds with one dead at the scene," a public information officer with the department told City News Service.
Police described the deceased victim only as a "young adult." The four injured victims were taken to local hospitals.
The circumstances that prompted the shooting were unclear.
"Due to the number of injured persons combined with the large number of partygoers and reports that the suspects were still on scene, mutual aid was requested. Officers learned the suspect(s) had fled the scene prior to police arrival," the department reported.
National City Police say more than 100 people, mostly teens, were at the house when they arrived. Officers from the San Diego Police Department, Chula Vista Police Department, San Diego Sheriff's Office and Harbor Police Department assisted at the crime scene.
Authorities urged anyone with information related to the shooting to call the NCPD non-emergency number at 619-336-4411 and request to speak with a detective, or call Crime Stoppers at 619-531-1500.
