From Coleman University's founder, Dr. Coleman Furr, who served in the U.S. Army in China during World War II, to our current faculty, Coleman University has a long history of supporting the military community and our veterans. San Diego is home to the largest concentration of military in the world, according to the San Diego Regional Economic Development Council. The defense industry represents one out of every four jobs in the region, including leaders in unmanned vehicles, robotics, cybersecurity and shipbuilding. Veterans transitioning into the civilian workforce often find they need new skills to keep abreast of changing technology, and that is where a college degree becomes invaluable.

Coleman University offers technology-focused degree programs in Cybersecurity, Software Development, Graphic Design, or Game Programming Development and Design. Our Veterans Affairs Coordinator is available to explain the programs in greater detail and outline how students can apply for VA benefits. The VA Coordinator also provides assistance with completing an application, determining whether a veteran is eligible to participate in a specific program, and connecting students with the financial aid office. Prior to graduation, veterans are encouraged to meet with the Career Services department for guidance on developing a résumé that translates their military experience and educational background for civilian employers.

Coleman's 40-week Cisco Academy program prepares students to sit for the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Routing and Switching Certification exam. The CCNA credential is one of the highest networking certifications in the field. The test is offered at Coleman's Testing Center and can be taken at any time, at the discretion of the student.

All our courses are Cisco approved and provide hands-on training. Individuals who earn this certification can pursue a position requiring knowledge and configuring of Cisco routers and switches. The program includes 4 courses: Introduction to Networks, Routers and Routing Basics, Switching Basics and Intermediate Routing, and WAN Technologies. All courses are held on the Coleman University campus and taught by experienced faculty. No prior knowledge of Cisco routers and switches is required.

Students can participate in outside learning opportunities through Coleman's partnership with the Electric and Networked Vehicle Institute (ENVI). ENVI's short-term, all-volunteer projects support intelligent, network-connected and electric-powered technology systems residing in unmanned vehicles and efficient transportation solutions. In 2016, the Coleman University-San Diego Mesa College-ENVI team participated against college teams from all over the world at the annual RoboSub competition at the SSC Pacific TRANSDEC in July. Coleman University and ENVI also collaborated on a hybrid-electric, 4WD Mini Moke, which was showcased at Electric Vehicle Day at Qualcomm Stadium in September. Additional ENVI projects in process include Unmanned Air Vehicles (UAV) and Unmanned Ground Vehicle Development (UGV), including driver-less cars, remotely controlled insect cyborgs and robotic farm tractors.

Coleman University is a Military Friendly® School, a designation granted to institutions that have been recognized for exhibiting leading practices in recruiting and supporting post-military students. We are  also member chapters of the Student Veterans of America (SVA) and SALUTE Veterans National Honor Society. We participate in the Yellow Ribbon Program, a program that makes additional funds available for a veteran's education program without an additional charge to their GI Bill entitlement, and we are aligned with the National Association of Veterans Program Administrators, an organization of institutions and individuals who are involved or interested in the operation of veterans' affairs programs and/or the delivery of services to veterans as school certifying officials across the country.
