SAN DIEGO — A man who was shot in City Heights died at an area hospital Tuesday afternoon.
San Diego Police Department received reports of several gunshots heard in the 3000 block of 40th Street around 11 a.m. in the City Heights area.
When first responders arrived on the scene, they found an unidentified person, suffering from gunshot wounds, San Diego police told CBS 8.
A photojournalist on the scene told CBS 8 that the victim was possibly a minor, but CBS 8 has yet to confirm that detail.
CBS 8 later learned the victim was a 35-year-old man, according to acting homicide Lt. Geoffrey DeCesari with the San Diego Police Department.
The gunshot victim was taken to Scripps Mercy Hospital around noon, but was pronounced dead after extensive rounds of CPR, SDPD said.
Video from Chopper 8 over the scene showed officers had blocked the scene while an investigation was underway.
The suspect is described as a roughly 15-year-old boy in a blue hooded sweatshirt, who ran off to the north, according to police.
San Diego Police Department's Homicide Unit was called to the scene to investigate.
