SAN DIEGO — A 58-year-old man was killed in a three-vehicle crash Tuesday in Clairemont Mesa and two other men were hospitalized with multiple injuries.

A 20-year-old man driving southbound in the 3600 block of Genesee Avenue, near Marlesta Drive, about 2:15 p.m. veered over the double yellow line and slammed head-on into a vehicle being driven by the 58-year-old man, who was going northbound on Genesee Avenue, according to Officer J. Buttle of the San Diego Police Department.

The impact of the crash caused the vehicle the 20-year-old was driving to roll over and the 58-year-old man's vehicle sideswiped a third vehicle, driven by a 48-year-old man, Buttle said.

The 58-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. The 48-year-old driver sustained spinal and sternal fractures, several cuts and bruising to his chest and stomach area, while the 20-year-old sustained a fractured left leg, broken nose, right lung contusion and an orbital fracture, Buttle said.

It was unclear why the driver veered across lanes, Buttle said.

Alcohol or drugs were not considered factors in the crash.

The names of the victims were not disclosed.
