SAN DIEGO — The San Diego Police Department is investigating a string of at least 20 burglaries they believe are related. Homes in Mira Mesa, Rancho Penasquitos, and Rancho Bernardo have all been broken into.
"The ring camera provided a very clear shot of their face, exactly what they were wearing so we were able to describe that to police and they brought the whole squad over and canine units," said Van, a homeowner in Rancho Bernardo.
Her break-in happened around 6 p.m. on March 7. Van says she's thankful her family wasn't home at the time.
"It was scary when we saw the police block off the street," said Frank Redeman, with Neighborhood Watch.
Frank has been the Neighborhood Watch Captain for more than 20 years. He says the neighborhood is now staying extra vigilant.
"Just checking out and watching out what's going on in the neighborhood," he said.
The break-in is one of 20 cases, in Mira Mesa, Rancho Penasquitos and Rancho Bernardo, police are investigating.
Investigators believe the incidents are related because of their similarities. They said in most cases suspects enter through a rear sliding glass door and take safes, cash and jewelry.
Residents are wanting to spread awareness and help prevent this crime from happening to anyone else.
"I'm just kind of like whatever we can do to help out the community and prevent this from happening to someone else. Submit any evidence we can to prevent this or catch these guys. That's my goal now," Van said.
Anyone with related information should contact Lt. David Bautista via email at dbautista@pd.sandiego.gov or contact Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
