SAN DIEGO — A legendary old school steakhouse that has been a part of San Diego’s restaurant scene for nearly 60 years is in its final days at its current location. The Red Fox Room located on El Cajon Boulevard is part of the Lafayette Hotel that opened in 1946.
The restaurant itself opened in 1959 but the wood paneling that adorns its walls has an even longer history. It’s about 400 years old and came from the original Red Fox Inn located in Surrey, England.
When it came about that the Red Fox Room’s lease was not going to renewed it came as a sad surprise to many of the regular clientele and the long-time staff members. But luckily, the owners found a new location – and it’s just across the street from its current location.
Much of the décor and paneling will make the move as well and co-owner Vince Romeri says he hopes people will come to the new locale and say that it looks like the place they remember.
The Red Fox Room will take reservations through Nov. 9 and Nov. 13 will be their last day at its current location. They plan to re-open at 2200 El Cajon Blvd. in the spring of 2020.
