SAN DIEGO COUNTY, Calif. — "Rustito’s Dulces" began as an online business about two years ago and quickly gained popularity with the help of social media. With 99,000 followers on TikTok, Rustito's Owner Olga Auclair is set to open its first brick and mortar store in Old Town San Diego.
“You're not gonna find it too spicy, you're not going to find it too sweet. I feel like I found the right balance that I can bring to even children,” Auclair said.
From dulces enchilados to sweet freeze dried candy, Rustito's Dulces is a candy wonderland with a mix of flavors.
“So I do my own chamoy sauce and my own chilito powder for any of our mixes like our gushers enchilados, our peach ring enchilados,” Auclair said.
Social media has made a huge impact in business for Rustito's Dulces, reaching people from all over the country.
“The Tik Tok orders is what keeps these people on their toes. They are... I'm talking hundreds, sometimes even thousands of orders will come in a day,” Rustito's Dulces manages TikTok account Eryka Martini said.
Olga noticed that a lot of the support she gets from TikTok is actually from people in her community, that's when she decided to open up a brick and mortar store.
“If I can find the right location and bring a little bit of my culture into san Diego more so that it would be perfect and what better place than old town san Diego,” Auclair said.
As a Latina business owner Olga says, it's important to become a representation and pave the way.
“You as a woman, as a strong Latina woman can become very successful in no matter what it is even if it's just candy,” Auclair said.
The grand opening for 'Rustito's Dulce's' is Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at 2415 San Diego Ave Suite 108.
