SAN DIEGO — A popular, locally owned and operated restaurant dubbed the “The King of all Tacos” in Barrio Logan is closing its doors.

Salud Tacos in Barrio Logan has served the community Mexican food and memories since 2015 but has been forced to close after failing to reach a new lease with the property owners.

Owners of the nationally acclaimed restaurant said the closure comes after a year of failed lease negotiations.

Also closing is “La Bamba Room”, a bar located adjacent to Salud that offered cocktails and music.

“This might be one of the hardest things I've ever had to express publicly. For the past year our lease in Barrio Logan was coming to terms, and we have been trying to negotiate a new lease in our same space, and over that past year nothing has come to fruition. Not being able to secure what we needed, along with other set backs out of anyones control, I've had to realize that maybe things happen for a reason and are just meant to be.

So after many sleepless nights, after wrestling with many thoughts and emotions, and after much consideration, I have decided to close our doors to Salud and La Bamba as we know it.

There's no easy way to say it. And learning to let go has been a task unto itself,” the company said in a statement posted to social media.

An outpouring of support has been shared on social media by patrons of Salud Tacos.

“Thank you for all of the delicious memories from taco Tuesdays to bringing friends from out of town to the best tacos in all of SD. Much love and support for your next venture,” one comment said.

Salud Tacos will continue to offer its food via catering options here.
