SAN DIEGO COUNTY, Calif. — The USO and the Salvation Army on Thursday served hundreds of meals for families across San Diego County.
The USO opened three locations where military families were able to have a Thanksgiving Day meal.
Max Muscat serves in the U.S. Navy. He stopped in after his flight home was delayed.
“You definitely appreciate it a little more when you get to be back home,” he said.
At Golden Hall in downtown San Diego, tables were set for 1,500 people braving out the rain for the Salvation Army’s 36th annual community feast.
Angel Ramirez sat down for a meal with his daughter Rosallin.
He said after a tough year of struggling to find housing, they have finally found a place to call home.
“It reminds me to give thanks to not just one day, but every moment of your life because it is really precious,” Ramirez.
Camilla Turner, who helps families, said she also has a lot to be thankful for this year.
“To be alive. That I get to make it here to be under a roof and be dry,” she said.
Nearly 400 volunteers spent the day serving food and giving back – exhibiting the true meaning of Thanksgiving.
